We have taken her to the vet and he has confirmed she has an auto-immune disorder called pemphigus, which causes painful blisters and sores on the skin and mucous membranes. She was not eating because the blisters rupture easily causing terrible pain and infections. This condition can be potentially fatal without a strong treatment plan in place.

We have started Cookie’s treatment today which along with the consultation has cost quite a lot of money. She will need at least 45 days of treatment
before improvement will be noticeable and biopsies have also needed to be done to confirm her diagnosis.

Today has been a long day for Cookie, with blood tests, biopsies etc in her terrible condition. Her treatment will be lengthy & expensive- she will need cortisone injections, antibiotics,
creams & pain relief & will also need to visit the vet every 3-4 days to be reviewed.

As you can imagine it will cost a substantial amount to make her better and get her skin and coat
plus all the areas where she has blisters which can be in her mouth and throat back into a healthy condition.

She is not a dog I have found- she has been with me in my shelter for more than 4 years so I cannot ignore her pain and see her die from this particularly nasty disease.
