Helping to heal Nova

Nova is a beautiful black German Shepherd who was rescued off a local beach by Rafik Diab, the brother or Moe Diab who runs “Moe Dogge” Shelter in Beirut.
Moe tells us that Nova was found with an horrific back leg injury – her left hind leg was just open bone with no flesh covering.
Moe says… “I believe she is a dog who was owned and was hit by a car. The owner has wrapped the wound with bandages but had obviously not taken her to vet.
So with the bandage remaining unchanged and no antibiotics or treatment given, she developed a very nasty infection
which has sadly travelled along the bone and meant the only treatment was unfortunately amputation”.

The surgery was completed 2 days ago and the entire leg removed due to the ongoing risk of osteomyelitis which is infection in the bone.
Her bloods taken pre surgery showed her heamoglobin was only 9. Most dogs have readings of 30, so she needed urgent care. She had obviously been bleeding out
for some time for a young dog to have such a low blood count. Nova will need ongoing treatment to prevent any infection taking hold in the amputated site.

She is much more settled pain wise now that leg has been removed and thankfully she is eating and drinking well. Nova will remain in Moe’s home until fully recovered,
as she is too weak to cope with the shelter dogs at the moment. When she’s well enough she will join the other dogs in Moe’s shelter.
Moe has asked for our help in raising donations for Nova, as very few donations have been received so far & the treatment will be long and expensive.
Please lets help this poor soul. Any donation however small will help in Nova’s recovery. Thank you.
