This darling little dog was run over by a train in Norther Macedonia, which completely crushed his front leg. When local rescuer Milka Doluzova found Miki, he was in dreadful pain.
Milka took Miki to the vet, who confirmed this injury was not recent and had likely occurred 2 weeks before Milka found him. Imagine the pain & suffering this little dog experienced!
Milka managed to fundraiser herself for the surgery to remove Miki’s leg, which sadly was too damaged and could not be saved.
This would have been the end to Miki’s story, but unfortunately medical tests showed that Miki is also heartworm positive. As a result, Miki will require long-term treatment
and must remain in kennels for at least 9 months, and ideally 12 months, which is the duration of the slow-kill treatment method.
While the medication itself is relatively affordable at approximately 20 EUR per month, the boarding costs over such a long period will accumulate. The estimated costs are as follows:
Treatment: 12 Advocate spot-ons × 20 EUR = 240 EUR
Boarding: 12 months × 60 EUR = 720 EUR
Tests (VetCheck): 25 EUR
Total: 965 EUR
Milka tells us that Miki is “doing remarkably well, and his attitude changed almost immediately after the operation.
He has a gentle and affectionate personality, loves belly rubs, and enjoys playing. I am sure that he will find a home once he is ready.”
Can we please help Milka to ensure Miki gets the treatment he needs to kill the heartworm so that he can go onto lead a happy life with a family?
We can’t think of a better outcome for this little dog. Please help us.
Thank you everyone.
