This is a story about a stray dog found by our Cambodian Rescuer – Tet Lin. Tet named her “Potato”.

Tet was on his weekly routine of rounding up stray animals for sterilization, something he does every week. He spotted this poor dog with an extremely swollen belly.
The weight of her belly was so much, her legs were buckling under the weight! It was extremely difficult for her to walk & Tet noticed she was also missing an eye.

Tet knew something was terribly wrong with this dog, so he immediately took her to the vet, where a blood test was carried out. She was then diagnosed with severe pyometra (*see details below) and required urgent surgery to save her life. Her uterus was badly infected, filled with pus, and weighed approximately 6.4 kg.
The vet estimated her age to be around four years old and described her condition as critical.

Following the surgery, the vet strongly advised that Potato remain at the clinic for continued treatment and monitoring.
She requires surgery recovery care and a two-day stay at the clinic to receive proper treatment. The total cost is approximately $220.

* Pyometra is a serious and potentially life-threatening infection of the uterus that causes it to fill with bacteria and pus.
The most effective treatment for pyometra is surgery to remove the uterus and ovaries, also known as a spay or ovariohysterectomy.
Any female dog that has not been spayed can develop a pyometra & it is deadly if left untreated. Pyometra can be easily prevented by spaying at a young and healthy age.
