We have just received an URGENT PLEA from the Galati shelter in Romania that a rescue group providing this shelter with food is not providing enough and the dogs are starving. There is also a chance this group may stop providing food altogether, if that happens, the dogs will surely die.
The lack of food is a desperate situation. Because the dogs are cold, hungry, they are starting to attack one another and many have terrible bite wounds. Many of the dogs ribs are showing, and the shy ones are getting no food at all & very vulerable. These photos below show the desperate situation now faced by these dogs.
This is the same shelter your donations have been helping to put roofs over the kennels to protect the dogs from the snow. Please don’t let these dogs go hungry. A recurring donation will be so appreciated. One off donations are also very welcome.

For all animal rescue groups the biggest expence item is keeping the dogs well fed. They can make do with many things but food is needed every day. In fact it’s often the food bill that stops shelters from taking in more rescues, if you can’t feed them you can’t rescue them.

Shelters try to find leftovers or outdated food, (animal or human) to cut their costs but it is never enough. Some people do donate bags of food but still they have to buy the bulk of the food themselves.
Having even part of the food bill paid would leave money free to pay the vet bills & improve the living conditions for the animals under their care. In some of the poorer areas local people help feed the street dogs, but it is usually the poor that spend what little money they have trying to make a difference.
Just providing them with the odd bag of food can make a street dogs life so much more bearable. Regular meals can improve the dog’s health & remove the need to fight for every mouthful. It’s the young & older dogs that suffer the most, they are just not brave enough to challenge the bigger dogs for their share,.

Rescue dogs tend to be medium to large size & eat around 600 grams of food per day, 18kgs of food per month. It costs about $20 per month per dog, so a small shelter with around 50 dogs has a monthly food bill of $1000.

Make a “One of Donation” to Food Aid…Dog’s bowls have to be filled everyday so your donation will fill a rescue dog’s stomach. Some dogs have never know regular food their life has been a daily search for scraps amongst the street rubbish. |
